ABOUT THE DOCTOR

Dr. Stephen L. Wheeler

Dr. Wheeler is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and postgraduate education through the University of Southern California and L.A. County hospital. Dr. Wheeler has been actively involved in implant dentistry since the early 1980's. He has placed thousands of implants of various types on patients of all ages and has become an international lecturer on the subject. Besides being proficient in the surgical placement of several different implant systems, Dr. Wheeler has helped to pioneer many of the newest bone grafting techniques, and is actively involved in research on esthetic tooth replacement using implants.

Dr. Wheeler is a member of numerous professional organizations and is a Diplomate of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow in the Academy of Osseointegration, and on the Advisory Board for the Institute for Dental Implant Awareness. In addition to active participation in the leadership of several of these organizations, he continues to instruct other doctors in implant and bone grafting techniques in training courses held in his office and abroad. He has published numerous articles in international journals regarding his research in various implant techniques, and is considered an expert in his field.


Commitment to Community Service

Dr. Wheeler has enjoyed the opportunity to live, work and raise his family in North San Diego County for twenty years. He and his wife are actively involved in the community in many ways. They participate in the fund raising efforts of several local organizations, such as Children's Hospital and the Center for Neglected Childhood Diseases, as well as numerous charitable organizations.

As a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Dental Implant Awareness (IDIA), Dr. Wheeler organized a group of dentists in the local area to participate in a project to provide necessary dental implant treatment free of charge for low income senior citizens who were oral invalids as result of losing all of their teeth.
